Não sei se todos vocês sabem, mas começou na segunda-feira, a Semana de Alta-Costura de Paris,  um dos eventos mais importantes da moda mundial.  Mas, vocês sabem o que significa Haute Couture?  A palavra couture, em francês, quer dizer trabalho de agulha ou costura. O primeiro estilista a produzir um desfile de moda, foi Charles Frederick Worth, em Paris em 1858. O desfile continha modelos e não cabides, uma novidade na época. Charles é conhecido como, o Pai da Alta-costura. Em geral, a Alta-costura refere-se à criação de peças artesanais, modelos exclusivos, com muita pedraria, metais preciosos e bordados, que são vendidos por altos preços aos seus clientes. Para evitar que os modelos fossem vítimas de plágio, foi criado em Paris, no ano de 1868, a Chambre Syndicale de la Confection et de la Couture pour Dames et Fillettes. E para estabelecer Paris como a capital mundial da moda, o sindicato criou em 1945, uma mostra itinerante de roupas, o Théâtre de la Mode. A Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture determina que as maisons devem empregar 20 pessoas, no mínimo. Elas também precisam apresentar, no mínimo 50 modelos originais para as coleções de primavera/ verão e outono/inverno (apresentadas em janeiro e julho, respectivamente). Entre os membros permanentes estão Chanel, Dior e Givenchy.

I don't know if all of you know, but last Monday started the Spring Summer 2013 Haute Couture in Paris, one of the most importants events of the fashion world. But, do you know what does Haute Couture mean? The word couture, in French, means seam or needlework. The first fashion designer to produce a fashion show was Charles Frederick Worth, at Paris in 1858. The show had models and not hangers, something new at that time. Charles is considered the Father of Haute Couture. In general, the Haute Couture refers to creation of handmade pieces, exclusive models, with a lot of jeweled, precious metals and embroidery, that are sold for high prices to the customers. To avoid that the models were plagiarized, it was created in Paris in 1868, the Chambre Syndicale de la Confection et de la Couture pour Dames et Fillettes. And to establish Paris as the world capital of fashion, the syndicate created in 1945, a traveling exhibit of clothes, the Théâtre de la Mode. The Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture determines that the maisons must to employ 20 people, at least. They also need to present, at least  50 original models to the collections of Spring/ Summer and Fall/Winter (shown in January and July, respectively). Among the permanent members are Chanel, Dior and Givenchy.
