Costume Design: O Cravo e a Rosa

Estudo pela manhã e durante a tarde tenho tempo livre para estudar, dormir e fazer outras coisas - inclusive escrever no blog. Quando soube que a novela O Cravo e a Rosa seria reprisada, decidi que iria assistir-la nas minhas tardes livres. Por se passar na década de 20, a trama logo me chamou a atenção: sou louca por figurinos vintage, especialmente os dos anos 20. A primeira semana nem acabou ainda, mas eu já estou adorando a telenovela. O figurino e o cenário estão excelentes - as cores, os tecidos, os penteados e os detalhes em geral estão muito bem feitos e de acordo com a época, no caso 1927. No figurino das moças predomina os tecidos mais leves, em tons neutros e fortes (como no caso de Catarina e Dinorá) e sempre acompanhados de acessórios, como chapéus, luvas e bijuterias. Os rapazes estão sempre de ternos, acompanhados de chapéus, como o clássico boater e o chapéu-coco. Detalhe: todos usam bigode, a febre da época. A novela retrata a realidade da época: o início do movimento feminista, mocinhas que sonhavam com amor verdadeiro e uma sociedade ainda muito conservadora. Vale a pena assistir O Cravo e a Rosa. Tenho certeza que você irá se divertir - e se encantar com a beleza da novela.

I study in the morning and during the afternoon I have some kind of free time to study, sleep and do some other stuff - including writting the blog. When I knew that the soap opera O Cravo e a Rosa (The Gillyflower and the Rose, translating to English) would be replayed, I decided to watch it during my free afternoons. The plot is in the 20's, so soon the soap opera caught my attention: I'm crazy about vintage costumes, especially those from the 20's. The first week haven't finished yet, but I am already loving it. The costumes and the scenery are stunning - the colours, the fabrics, the hairdos and all the details in general are really good. In the ladies costumes predominates the lighter fabrics, in neutral and hot tones (in the case of Dinorá and Catarina) and always accompained by accessories like hats, groves and bijoux. The guys are always wearing suits, matched with hats, like the bowler and boater. Detail: they all wear moustaches, the hot trend in that time. The soap opera portrays the 20's reality in Brazil: the beggining of the feminist movement, young ladies who dreamt about finding the true love and a very conservative society. Worth watching The Gillyflower and the Rose. I'm sure you're gonna like it and have some fun.

Giorgio Armani Privé - Paris Haute Couture Winter 2014

Confesso que não ando acompanhando cada momento e desfile da Semana da Alta Costura Parisiense ( ou Paris Haute Couture Winter 2014). Porém, não pude deixar de ver minhas maisons prediletas na passarela, não é? Além da clássica Chanel, que sempre me surpreende - Karl, você é genial e a cada desfile eu te admiro mais e mais - um dos fashion shows que mais me chamaram a atenção foi o do estilista italiano, Giorgio Armani: a coleção de inverno foi totalmente inspirada na Art Decó e nas divas hollywoodianas da década de 30. Dá para imaginar algo mais vintage que isto? Por ser predominantemente em tons claros e perolados, a coleção foi denominada Nude. Me apaixonei pelo trabalho bem feito dos maquiadores e cabeleireiros: as modelos pareciam ter vindo realmente dos anos 30. Terninhos, rendas, ombreiras e transparência predominaram no desfile. Perfeito, né? A verdadeira Marlene Dietrich moderna. Separei alguns looks abaixo.

I confess that I'm not watching each moment and fashion show from the Paris Haute Couture Winter 2014. However, I couldn't help watching my favourite maisons on catwalk, right? Besides the classic Chanel, which always surprises me - Karl, you're a genious and every fashion show I admire you more and more - one of the fashion parades that most caught my attention was the one of the Italian designer Giorgio Armani: the collection was totally inspired by Art Decó and divas from the Golden Hollywood in the 30s. Can you imagine something more vintage than this? By being predominantly in light and pearl tones, the collection was named Nude. I fell in love with the well-done work of the make-up artists and hairdresses: the models really seemed to have come from the 30's. Suits, lace, jamps and transparency predominated during the parade. Perfect, no? The true modern Marlene Dietrich. I selected some looks below.

Feminismo na Moda - Feminism in Fashion

O século XX foi uma época de grandes conquistas às mulheres. Direito ao voto e a entrada no mercado de trabalho são dois dos vários exemplos das nossas lutas por uma sociedade mais democrática. Com essas alterações ocorrendo na sociedade, a vestimenta da mulher também se modifica. Os primeiros sinais de mudança apareceram em 1825, quando Fanny Wright tornou-se a primeira moça a usar calças masculinas em público. Mas, foi no início do século XX que o papel da mulher começou a ganhar destaque: nas ciências, Marie Curie ganha os Nobéis de Física e Química, respectivamente, em 1903 e 1911; no campo da moda, surge a estilista francesa Coco Chanel, uma mulher moderna e que vestia-se de forma masculinizada para os padrões da época. Chanel revoluciona o guarda-roupa feminino ao abolir o uso do corset, antes obrigatório para as mulheres. À partir daí, surgem as flappers, moças modernas que usavam vestidos mais soltos e cabelos curtos. As moderninhas dos anos 20.

The twentieth century was a time of great achievements to women. Right to vote and entry into labour market are two examples of our fights for a more democratic society. With these changes in the society, the attire of women also changed. The signs of changing appeared in 1825, when Fanny Wright became the first lady to wear a male trousers in public. But it was in the beginning of the twentieth century that the role of women began to gain prominence: in science, Marie Curie wins the Nobels of Physics and Chemistry in 1903 and 1911, respectively; in fashion arises the French fashion designer Coco Chanel, a modern woman who used to get dressed in a masculinized form to the standards of that time. Nos anos 30, estrelas de cinema viram os grandes ícones de estilo: Katharine Hepburn e Marlene Dietrich popularizam as calças entre o público feminino. Na década de 40, durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, muitas mulheres passaram a trabalhar em indústrias bélicas, substituindo os homens que estavam no front. Com isso, o uniforme passa a ser um traje comum nos armários femininos. Para proteger os cabelos, muitas optavam por usar lenços na cabeça. No término da guerra, a maioria das mulheres voltou a usar vestidos: surge o New Look de Christian Dior, que consistia em uma silhueta parecida com a do século XIX. Foi o verdadeiro retorno à feminilidade. Mas uma grande mudança estava por vir. Na década de 60, com o crescimento dos movimentos feministas, surge a minissaia, peça criada pela estilista britânica Mary Quant. A minissaia passou a ser um grande símbolo do feminismo dos anos 60. Foi nos anos 60 que também surge Twiggy, a primeira top model do mundo.

In the 30s, the film stars become the great fashion icons: Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich popularize the trousers among the female audience. In the 40s during the World War II, many women started working at war industries, replacing men who were at the front. Thus, the uniform becomes a common costume in female closets. To protect the hair, some ladies used to wear scarves on their head. With the ending war, most of women came back wearing dresses: arises the New Look by Christian Dior, which consisted of a silhouette similar to the nineteenth century. It was the true return to femininity. But a big changing would come. In the 60s, with the increasing feminist movement, arises the miniskirt, whose creator was the British fashion designer Mary Quant. The miniskirt turned a big symbol of the feminism during the 60s. It was also in this time that appears Twiggy, the first top model of the world.

Bom, como vocês sabem, eu adoro falar sobre beleza, principalmente cabelo e maquiagem. Não sei se alguns de você lembram, mas há dois meses, eu fiz um especial sobre os 10 cabelos vintage mais inspiradores - se você não viu o post, clique aqui. Bem, nos comentários desta postagem, alguns leitores pediram para eu fazer uma continuação dessa lista, pois estariam faltando alguns ícones. Confesso que a continuação do post cita alguns ícones da década de 70 e 80 e, não, ícones da old Hollywood. Espero que gostem de mais uma viagem pelo mundo da moda.

Well, as you know I love talking about beauty, especially hair and make-up. I don't know if you remember, but two months ago I made a special post about the 10 most inspiring vintage hair - if you didn't see the post, click here. Well guys, in the comments of that post, some readers asked me to make a continuation of this list because they would be missing some icons. I confess that this continuation mentions some icons from the 70s and 80s and, no, icons from the old Hollywood. I hope you enjoy this trip through the fashion world.

Adivinha qual corte de cabelo predominou em praticamente toda a década de 60? Acertou quem disse franjas. Isso mesmo, essas belezinhas reinam entre nós desde os anos 20, mas foi na década de 60 que viraram ícones de estilo. Naquela época quase todas as moças - desde young feministas à mocinhas conservadoras - usavam franjinha. Uma das mais famosas garota franjinha da época é a atriz e cantora inglesa Jane Birkin. Ela ficou famosa por ser esposa do compositor francês Serge Gainsbourg. Assim, logo seu estilo foi copiado por muitas fashionistas alternativas e revistas de moda começaram a prestar atenção no estilo original da moça. Eu mesma já aderi à famosa franjinha de Birkin, lembram? Muito inspirador.

Guess what was the most famous haircut in the 60s? You're right if you said bangs. Yes, they prevail among us since the 20's, but it was in the 60s they became fashion icons. And one of the most popular girls was Betty Grable. Besides being a model, Grable was actress, dancer and singer. She appeared in some musicals in Hollywood, like Down Argentine Way (1940), Mother Wore Tights (1947) and How To Marry A Millionaire (1953). But it was her iconic bathing suit poster that made her a star. Betty is a vintage icon, undoubtedly. Her hairdo, the victory rolls, is copied by many girls around the world even nowadays. Os cabelos coloridos significavam a liberdade do adolescente, sua ousadia e teimosia. E Cyndi representava isto: o jovem rebelde e com aparência diferenciada que chocava as senhoras conservadoras. Deve ser por isso que adoro a moda da década de 80: originalidade até demais.

Farrah Fawcett marcou uma geração. Ela é considerada o maior símbolo sexual da década de 70 e um dos maiores de todos os tempos. Seu pôster, vestindo um maiô vermelho foi um recorde de vendas. Farrah ficou conhecida por interpretar uma das angels no seriado setentista, As Panteras; por se tratar de um seriado muito popular entre adolescentes, logo, muitas garotas começaram a copiar o estilo de Farrah. Seu corte de cabelo foi o mais popular da década de 70. Por que ela merece o primeiro lugar? Bem, ninguém foi tão influente quanto ela, a ponto de inspirar garotas dos anos 70, 80 e até 90.
