A moda é dita como democrática, mas demorou para aceitar modelos negros e de outras origens. Afinal, a maioria das über models são brancas e de origem europeia. Acho que a única supermodel negra que fez muito sucesso, foi a britânica Naomi Campbell - você conhece alguma outra? Talvez, a Iman, esposa do David Bowie. Até nos dias de hoje, modelos negros e de outras etnias - asiáticos, de origem indÃgena ou indiana, e mestiços - tentam conseguir um pequeno espaço no mundo fashion, que valoriza mais o padrão de beleza europeu. Há um tempinho, foi aprovada uma lei que diz que os eventos de moda no Brasil, como o Fashion Rio, devem conter, no mÃnimo, 10% do casting de modelos negros. Sinceramente, acho meio sem noção as marcas não colocarem modelos negras e mulatas em desfiles no Brasil - o paÃs tem a população em sua maioria parda e mestiça. Ou seja, fica meio estranho nos igualarmos ao padrão europeu: nós não vemos pessoas loiras e com olhos azuis, em sua maioria, nas ruas, vemos? Enfim, hoje é o Dia da Consciência Negra e para esta data, preparei uma seleção de capas de revistas de moda com modelos negras. Acredite, a primeira revista a ter uma negra como capa foi a Life, apenas em 1966. Tarde, não?
Fashion is democratic, but took so long to acept black modelos and of other origins. After all most of über models are white and of European origin. I think the only black supermodel, who made a huge success was the British, Naomi Campbell - do you know any other? Maybe, Iman, David Bowie's wife. Until nowadays, black and of other ethnicities models - Asian, Indian, Arabs and mixed-race - try to get a little space in the fashion world, which values more the European beauty pattern. A little time, here in Brazil, a law was passed that says fashion events in the country, like Fashion Rio, must contain, at least, 10% of the casting of black models. Sincerely I think it's weird the brands in Brazil don't put black models or mulatas in the fashion shows - the country has a big mixed and mestiza population. It means: it gets weird we equalize in the European standard: we cannot see many blond and blue-eyed people walking down the streets, can we? Well, today in Brazil we celebrate the Black Awareness Day (Dia da Consciência Negra) and for this date, I prepared a list of magazine covers starring a black model. Believe me or not, the first fashion magazine to have a black model in the cover was Life, in 1966. Late, don't you think?
